Due to obligatory military service, and racing with Team Finland I haven't had much time to maintain our internet-pages. I have decided to use that little time for the Finnish version (can be found in the web-address www.ratamelonta.net), which has maybe 60% of our visitors. Decision was hard, but inevitable. I have many updates in my mind, and it's sure they will come real, but it will take some time. In negotiations with International Olympic Committee ICF has managed to have 75 more athletes in the next Olympics in Athens 2004. Sprint racing has 12 and slalom 4 disciplines in the olympic program. It is still unknown how the extra athletes will divide between the different disciplines. Kimmo Latvamaki was 2nd in his semifinal in K-1 500m, and Mikko Keso - Kalle Mikkonen were also 2nd in theirs in K-2 500m. Both made it to the finals. Women's K-2 Jenni Honkanen - Filippa Sjöberg just slightly disqualified from A-final being 5th in semi-sinal. |

K-2 5000m) championships in Ruovesi August 11-12.
RKP Ruovesi (Lauri Palmroth - Kimmo Lavamäki - Pentti Sahi - Marko Vasenius) won Merimelojat from Helsinki (Panu Kanniainen - Mikko Keso - Ilkka Ritvos - Heikki Ritvos) by 0.36sec in 200m, and by 0.28sec in 500m. RKP won also K-4 1000m, while Merimelojat celebrated in K-4 5000m (this time with line up Kimmo Harikoski - Ilkka Ritvos - Tuomas Piiroinen - Heikki Ritvos). In K-2 5000m Jaakko and Juha Selivaara from Ahlainen beat Kimmo Harikoski and Ilkka Ritvos from Merimelojat with their good spurt before the finnish line.
